Joe, I hope you get that Bombadil!
If that were my size, my wallet will be complaining again :-)

Fingers crossed, Ian. I tried to pay up front but he doesn't do the PayPal
thing (I don't blame him) so I'm supposed to talk to his bike shop on Tuesday
about getting it packed and shipped and go from there. So if anyone is in the
area and "needs" it more than I do, bring cash before I figure
Awesome! Looking forward to the ride reports and photos. Hope the deal goes
through smoothly.

Joe! The 52 Bomba is an awesome bike. I ran mine with Bosco bars. Had the Bosco
Bullmoose originally then switched to standard Bosco. Hope you enjoy it.

Kim, that comment gave me weird flashbacks to when I was married!

Need and want are two different things.
Do any of us really need every riv we own?
Or any of them for that matter?

Not sure I understand the whole buying a Rivendell that you don't need
thing, maybe there's someone that really wants that bike.

I am glad you bought it, because I kinda thought it didn't really look like the
size listed and had I known it was a 52 I might not have been able to resist.

You could show up with a suitcase full of cash, buy all the bikes, then buy
the Honda Element, stuff the bike in, and drive away with an instant bike
collection.

I'm looking forward to it. Tbh I have no excuse to buy - I just got a custom
and it's perfect! - but I've always wanted a Bombadil with that nifty
double-tube and didn't have the cash when they were new. Now like those Roadeos
discussed elsewhere they're not trading hands very often
Good plan Joe, I believe you will be glad you did. I'm sure pleased with my
clearcoated 52.

Joe,
Welcome to the club. I agree that the Bombadil’s fork is as good as any ever
produced.
As good as the Hunq is and beloved by many; I strongly prefer the Bombadil.
That might only be because the 62cm Hunq lent to me for an extended weekend was
slightly to small for me. My 64cm Bomb is

I shall throw this wild assertion out: I'm buying it. Money hasn't actually
changed hands yet (this is a 'no PayPal' proposition) but I got the 52cm size
confirmed and said "Yeah I'll take it!" Stay tuned for updates as they develop.
Or developments as they update, your choice.

I’ll throw this out there as a wild assertion without much support.
The Rivendell Bombadil exhibits the most perfect fork bends of any Rivendell
model ever. Nobody has a Rivendell with a better looking bend than Bombadil
owners. Rivendells are consistently “good”. Bombadils are perfect.
Thanks Joe. Mine is a 56 Proto.

The bike in the Craigslist ad is the size Rivendell called 52cm. I rode a 56
which had a 60.5cm top tube and an 85cm standover with max tires.

Jim, what size is your Bombadil? The numbers in that Craigslist ad don't look
right to me, I'd like to compare it to your bike. Which is gorgeous!

If you click on the "more ads by user" in the ad, you can see this guy has
quite an impressive collection of bicycles for sale.

I've got one of those early clearcoated bomadils. Like Joe the spider rust
doesn't bother me.
I did trade a few emails with RBW re the clearcoat "issue". My takeaway was
that it's really a powdercoat "issue", but with colored powdercoat you cant
see whats going on.
Mine isn't as clean as the

I dig it!

Not to dwell on it but take a look at picture #15 and the cantilever post
shows brazing rod. Also look at the bottom bracket picture and zoom in and
that looks like classic rust under clear coat. Super nice bike in any case.
You got to love the double top tube!

I think it's just Silver!? I didn't see any evidence of Brazing rod around
the lugs; it looks a little too clean to be clear coated metal even.

Looks like the frame is just clear coat over raw steel. Not a good
combination for the PNW.
