The Yokozuna V brakes are currently 65% off at Soma, thru Sunday. I bought
a pair at the last sale, they're nice enough. Seemed similar to Shimano
Deore.

You can purchase Yokozuna v-brakes and levers from Soma. Wait till one of
their killer sales and you can get a deep discount. However, Wesley's
suggestion looks great.

Mix is scary steep. Going downhill is nerve wracking, and requires frequent stops to cool off overheated brakes. –Eric NOn Apr 12, 2024, at 3:10 PM, Collin A wrote:We talking pavement or dirt?I think pavement the steepest/longest is out in vacaville - Mix Canyon Road is about 2500 ft in 5 miles
We talking pavement or dirt?
I think pavement the steepest/longest is out in vacaville - Mix Canyon Road
is about 2500 ft in 5 miles for an average of about 10%.
As for dirt, they are all steep as $hit. The longest/steepest is probably
somewhere out in Marin, but "Dirt Diablo" via Burma Road
Apparently the actual steepest road mile in California is nearby: Mix
Canyon Road, which ascends Mt. Vaca. I found this out after I rode up and
wondered whether it just seemed extra steep to me because I live in the
flat Central Valley.

The top of Diablo is probably the steepest (15%?), but quite short (a
couple hundred feet). The second half of Mt. Diablo is steeper than the
first half and is about ~6-8% and ~4.5 miles from the junction/ranger
station. The backside of Mt Hamilton is about 5 miles at a sustained 10%.

You can't get better value than these: $33 for brakes, levers, cables, and
housing. I use them on my commuter and they're perfectly cromulent.

That might be worth watching; thanks for the link. (Yes, I too find most
movies too slow and only watch them with my daughter, a film major;
otherwise I fast-forward a lot.)*
I can't help but thinking that if there were riding Rivendells they might
have been more comfortable.
Lastly, when I read
Looks like this was posted in May 2023 with a price of $3200. So it looks
like a price decrease to me.

There’s a new movie premiering next week called Hard Miles, and I think it
will delight us. It’s based on a true story about some youth in the justice
system riding their bikes from CO to the Grand Canyon, a 750+ mile venture.
There are some big names in the movie, notably Sean Astin, who

I’m building up a vintage MTB frame. Looking for decent v brakes with
levers. Nothing too expensive as this is a cheap frame. Thanks.

It’s been a while since I’ve ridden up either, but as I recall Mt Hamilton is by far the longer climb, but Mt Diablo has steeper sections. The last bit to the top of Diablo is quite steep. –Eric NOn Apr 12, 2024, at 8:11 AM, George Schick wrote:For those of you living in the Bay Area, which is
For those of you living in the Bay Area, which is the steepest, longest
climb, the one up Mt. Diablo or the one up Mt. Hamilton?

Apparently, I replied to Pam as "author only" by accident, which, means my
high praise and admiration for her *absolutely bonkers HERO feat* of flying
