Hi
There appears to be a bug in the way smb.conf is parsed. (3.0.28)
The winbind separator = \ fails because the backslash id treated as
a line continuation so the whole of the next line is also lost.
testparm reports ERROR: the 'winbind separator' parameter must be a
single character.

Hello and sorry for the late answer,
I tried to change add machine script line but this is not the solution I think
: smbldap-useradd returns 0 when computer does not exist in the ldap directory.
Even if I change the line, it always returns 9 when the computer account already
exists.
getent passwd
Could you put your smb.conf?

Try wrtiting 2 or more backslashes. When a backslash appears at the testparm
result, all will work fine. The testparm needs 2 or more backslashes to get
one like the separator. It is because the backslash is a special character.
Ah, and don't worry for the same error/warning at the testparm after
This is the smb.conf file.

Does anyone know if a Samba server can be a member of more than one
domain at once?
I want a server in 4 totally separate domains to do 802.1x authentication.

All,
I'm looking for a little bit of advice on migrating to an AD backend.
We currently have 2 Domains (from a company merger) - one on NT4 DC, one
on Samba DC. The 2 domains trust each other.
We need to move to a single domain, and standardise on username format
etc. The decision has been
I tried adding guest ok = no in the [homes] section below and got the same
results.
On first access from a WinXP Client, the system requests a userid and
password. If you provide a userid and password, the system will Not allow
you to view the shares. The only way (that I've found) to get
I don't think, but that would be a cool feature.

Try access your linux samba box by IP from windows (\\1.2.3.4) instead of by
name (\\servername). Same result?

Hello.
I have a problem connecting to a printer via Samba from Vista 64-bit.
Samba is configured to use printers from CUPS. When I try to connect to
a printer I get a error message saying Windows cannot connect to the

I have
The results are exactly the same if I use IP Address or Hostname.

I have a AD domain running fine, and I want to add my first linux server.
To keep things simple, I do NOT want to integrate it into my domain. I just
want to create a share that anyone can read/write to.
I've created the setup below which works fine only if I access the linux
share box by ip

This client does NOT currently use AD for anything special (GPO, etc).
Is this possible? Advised?
Hello Andreas,
this hasn't been fixed in the official releases, jet.
The problem and the solution has been reported earlier.
Look at:

If you can compile the sources yourself, you can easily apply the fix to
