Henning,

Quite fast if you consiere, that it's used by quite a lot of
Hello. If a scanner has 12 bits internal precision, then can
user send an enchangement table of length 4096 to the scanner?
The Xsane preferences file has only tables of length 256 which
are not enough, as far as I understand.
I assume the factory enchangement tables inside the scanners are

A 12 bit scanner needs indeed a gamma table of 4096 entries. But it is not
necessary that the frontend maintains such a table. It is sufficient to
exchange 256 byte gamma tables and to expand them by interpolation in
the backend.

Hi,
quoting backend-writing.txt:
If you don't have access to other platforms, ask sane-devel.
I'd like to add a new backend artec_eplus48u (formerly known as

other platforms than Linux, could someone please test it?

Oh. That's because of sanei_scsi.c? We should add a hint in
README.linux.
This is the error:
gcc -c -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I../include -I../include -D_GNU_SOURCE
-DPATH_SANE_CONFIG_DIR=/usr/local/sane/etc/sane.d
-DPATH_SANE_DATA_DIR=/usr/local/sane/share -DV_M
AJOR=1 -DV_MINOR=0 -g -O2 -W
What would be the best USB scanner with an Automatic Document Feeder to
buy to work with Linux?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Hi,
Inspired by the discussions about how to get USB scanners running,
I've just updated the USB manpage in CVS. I hope its structure is more
easy to understan now. It starts with the kernel issues and then goes
to SANE backend problems.
Comments/fixes welcome.

Hi,
I'm sorry for annoying you again, but I can't solve the problem.
I am using the command
scanimage -d umax:/dev/sgb --source Transparency Adapter --resolution 300dpi
-l 30 -t 10 -x 175 -y 225 --depth 12
so I should obtain 12bit (in two byte) per channel per pixel.
But this is a picture of
After a huge help from Henning Meier-Geinitz I have the current
paper that helps anyone get a USB scanner found by SANE. It is basic by
intention so most of you can read it without a lot of trouble.
The paper will be available for reading at my web site which is:

Thank you, all problems you've mentioned should be solved now.

Hello.
You walked into a little trap with the default options of the
sane-umax backend. By default the option custom-gamma is
enabled what means that you have to send a gamma table
or you have to disable the option custom-gamma.
When you do
scanimage -d umax:/dev/sgb --source Transparency
howdy all,
i'm working with the fujitsu scanpartner 15c, i've got the unit scaner
via the flatbed with no problems, however when scanning using the ADF
using Letter size paper, the scanner pulls and extra sheet of paper
before scanner the next item. i've checked the scanimage --help and did
Now the only problem that's left, is the fact that xsane doesn't
recognize
my scanner on the client side. If i run saned on the server, scanimage
-L
finds no scanners, if I run saned -d it does!
This sounds like the timing problem that was fixed in an earlier SANE
release (1.0.7 or 1.0.8?).
Has anyone had any luck with the USB scanjet hp5470c series yet?
