[sane-devel] more than 8 bits?

2002-11-19 Thread Juhana Sadeharju
Hello. If a scanner has 12 bits internal precision, then can user send an enchangement table of length 4096 to the scanner? The Xsane preferences file has only tables of length 256 which are not enough, as far as I understand. I assume the factory enchangement tables inside the scanners are of

[sane-devel] more than 8 bits?

2002-11-19 Thread Ulrich Deiters
A 12 bit scanner needs indeed a gamma table of 4096 entries. But it is not necessary that the frontend maintains such a table. It is sufficient to exchange 256 byte gamma tables and to expand them by interpolation in the backend. Regards, Ulrich Deiters

Hi, Inspired by the discussions about how to get USB scanners running, I've just updated the USB manpage in CVS. I hope its structure is more easy to understan now. It starts with the kernel issues and then goes to SANE backend problems. Comments/fixes welcome. Bye, Henning

Now the only problem that's left, is the fact that xsane doesn't recognize my scanner on the client side. If i run saned on the server, scanimage -L finds no scanners, if I run saned -d it does! This sounds like the timing problem that was fixed in an earlier SANE release (1.0.7 or 1.0.8?).
