Hello,
the feeling of a grayscale-Image scanned by sane is like lineart. When I do
the same scan with HP-Scan-Util in XP, then it is a good Grayscale-image with
many details.
I've two examples of the same scan plus the differences in the histogram.
In the histogram, the differences are evident.
I understand the CCD/CIS distinction -- I wasn't planning on moving the
light adjacent to the scan head, just thinking about what sort of extra
lighting might be necessary.
I found some older models of the Corex Cardscan that seem pretty cheap
and hackable, but I can't find the 800 model.

There are continuous feed scanners. Plenty exist in the office-copier
form factor, some are desktop models (HP high-capacity document
scanners), and plenty are photograph scanners. Ages ago you could get
a sheet feed scanner that mounted on top of a keyboard (or just sat

Hi Ilia,
oh-ha, thanks for info.
... These calculations gave near the same tables as original Windows

if I look at the two histograms - I could mail them to you -
it looks like a 'not too small' difference.
...That could be because the scanner receives two tables (maps), I've
