Did you have wine running some scanner software at the time you tried
the tests with simplescan or xsane? Only one program can talk to the
scanner at a time.

Hi,
I have a Canon MF8330cdn multi function device, printer/scanner/copier.
Canon supplies printer drivers which work fine, but scanning doesn't work.
If I connect it with USB, sane-find-scanner says:
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon,Inc.], product=0x2708
[MF8330]) at libusb:001:005
