Ok, this is because sane_cancel() is called from a signal handler. I've
re-read the sane API documentation and the backend should handle that.

Since many users have lots of difficulties to install the external hpljm1005
sane backend, it would be easyer to merge it into sane CVS, so it get builded
and installed with others backends.
What modification should I do to make it happen ?

This is done on purpose. Cups specify explicitly that backend should loop if
the printer is busy.
