I have had my second break down of an HP scanner in three years so I have now
decided to get a cheap, however, all the newer ones are almost all not
supported
according to SANE's list of supported scanners. I've looked at Canon's CanoScan

On both my FC3 and FC4 boxes the sane-frontends are installed (according
to rpm -q sane-frontends) but trying to run xscanimage from a terminal
fails (command not found).

sane-backends exists in FC4 for AMD64 in two versions, an i386 and an
x86_64 version. Compiling sane-backends as in FC3 updates only the i386
version. How do I compile it so that both versions get updated?

I have an Acer ScanWit 2720S negative filmscanner which works very well
under Windows 2000. I like, however, to have it running under Linux
(Fedora Core 3).

How come the copy function under xsane ejects an empty page after

The latest levels do not yet come in rpm format so I assume that if I
let them stay then the up2date process may later catch up if an even
newer level comes out in rpm format - or is this a false assumption?
