tesseract directly from the Viewer Mode.
At the risk of blowing my own trumpet, I would suggest that you try
gscan2pdf, which handles scanning and OCR out of the box.

I have been trying to setup scanning for OCR and have successfully
installed XSane Image Scanner and also both tesseract-ocr and gocr for
the OCR side of thinks.
