.rpm
I converted to Slackware packages and installed. But, no luck, xsane
does not find it.
What else do I need to do? Brother is notorious for not giving
instructions.

?
tj
Bingo!
Should've realized that, same as --sysconfdir, creates sane/ off of it. Duh.
Thanks for all of the help, Now another thing I don't have to fire up
Windoze to do.

I think your --libdir statement is to blame. I bet you have two
installs of sane- one in /usr/lib
v0.1.16 - 2007-12-30
[epson2] attach: devname = autodiscovery, type = 4
[epson2] attach: opening autodiscovery, type = 4
[epson2] e2_network_discovery, sent discovery packet
[epson2] e2_network_discovery, end
[epson2] sane_epson2_get_devices

make this thing work?
Also, where in the /dev tree is the device placed?
tj
Yes, the chart says it should work, but it doesn't! xsane says no
scanner found, so what can I do to make xsane find it? (and yes, I user
is in scanner group)

I have a Canon FB630U USB scanner that xsane recognizes, but takes very,
very long times to scan, four minutes for a 5x6 photo (600 dpi, takes 40
seconds under Windoze) and take a nap for 8.5x11 (takes les than two
minutes under Windoze).
So, how do I make it work?
tj
a copier.
Just start it and then go watch a TV show.
Slackware 13
xsane 0.996

I have a screwy problem I cannot figure out with a FB630U scanner.
When you first plug it in scanimage -L finds the printer, but if you run
scanimage -T you here the scanner recalibrate the scan bar, but then you
wait for quit a while for the scan to start anywhere from 30 secs to
several
I have a Canon FB630U sacnner and a problem with it under Slackware 10.
Do a:
$ scanimage -L
device `canon630u:/dev/usb/scanner0' is a CANON Canoscan FB630U flatbed
scanner
so the scanner is found.
But do:
$scanimage -T -d canon630u:/dev/usb/scanner0
and it just hangs. Hit CNTRL-C
scanimage:
a specified amount?
tj
I tried there and being root I got the sane-find-scanner -p to work, but
that is all that worked, scanimage-L never worked.
So, after wasting a lot of time on this I guess it is back to Windows to
do my scanning and graphics.
