Thank you Michael for your reply. around the same time I posted my email,
someone informed me about the trim feature of ImageMagick. and it seems to
do the job based on my brief testing. but, I would rather not have to do
such an operation.

Dear all,
When using xsane, it seems that I must manually select the dimensions of
the papers. Is there no way that xsane or sane can automatically detect
each paper's dimensions?
