Hi Ilia, please find debug from sane below. Hope it helps to identify the issue. After run scanimage for first time scanner seems to be stuck somehow and it needs to be plugged out from AC adapter to get it working again. It works like a charm in Win7 WinXP. In case you'll need anything else,

I have an HP SCANJET 4500c scanner. It works well under Windows but I want get rid off such operating system. I found my scanner is supported by SANE development source using HP5590 backend. When I issue the command sane-find-scanner it returns: This is sane-find-scanner from sane-backends
