Thanx all for the answers and advice(s).

 To Jeremy Johnson:

Very cool the program higin, it's possible to make a scrip for make his
job in real time?

To Allan:

Yes!! I know.. the software it's the last of our problems.. very
usefull your advice. For the rigid frame .. no problem, we work good on
iron, steel or aluminium. We aren't think about motor question e
dataloss, thank.

To Gerard Klaver:

no cameras says our chief!!! Sic!! was my first idea for solving the
problem scanner. Thank for information on the size of scanned photos.

This is the link http://www.mediaintegrati.it/manhere to a
presentation of our project. We need to build a scanner gate bigger
like a door. The visitor may think about a gate the scan (with a green
scenografic led up down) his
body and take a picture (we also think about a rendering in 3d of the
scanned image or an avatar crated in real time) put into some different
contests of web sites or web cam sites.
If someone have an idea about the making of the scanner-gate and the
software controlling pleas e post that. I hope to work with some
developers in Italy but want to take a fine project before.
The power of open-source software helo me so much.

p.s. Yes!! I'm a newbie and fanboy. AHAHAH

[sane-devel] How i can use 2 or more scanners at the same time??

2008-07-23 Thread litlle girl
Lov level scanner driver is required, gt68xx ie.
 1. the optical package of each scanner cannot be placed end-to-end and
get a complete scan, because there is some dead space for packaging or
mechanism on the ends. so now you have to stagger them, and then have
a staggered calibration strip. correcting skew and adjusting height
will be excercises in very precise machining.
Scan heads packagins can ovelap themselves, there will be no dead space,
with constant y offset, it will be easy to produce image.
-=- (head1)
-=- (head2)
-=- (head3)

 3. you will have to have a much larger motor, or convince the series
of motors to move at EXACTLY the same rate, or some of them will be
dead weight (very difficult to do if they have independent
 controllers)
There is easy way:
connect one controler to all motors
(split signal)
(each head will have own motor)
in one cycle all scanning all heads go 1 step,
then colect data from all scanning heads,
then make next step
with dualcore or quadcore CPU collect all data
will not be a problem,
(conect heads to all usb ports avaible,
not to one potr or hub)
USB1.1 max transfer is 12 Mbit/s (1.5 MB/s)
so i.e. 10 heads can make max transfer about 120Mbit (15MB/s)
this is no problem download it and save to disk(s)

We have thought about the scanner's depth of field after some test with
  A4 size.
I must tell you the truth, we really like the effect nuanced we get, we
are also working on this. A technician told us that the sensitivity of
ccd can be adjusted, although there is as yet unclear.
We also think about a Frankenstein-scanner made of various parties other
scanners (A4 course). We need to do so because we not have a budget large.
We have also seen this site http://www.artila.com/, there are some
controller and engine, the controller contains a small linux and may be
(as we understood) used to control engine or electrical appliances. We
plan to use it to manage the engine scanner.
you think we can use for our project?
Is possible to build a mega-scanner with part of A4 scanner?
  There's an engineer among yourselves?

i have a mechanical engineering background, and like any good
engineer, i am telling you, keep it simple. use a camera- they are
cheap, have a much greater depth of field, are designed to work with
ambient light conditions, the list goes on. the scanner idea is art,
not engineering.
