hello i found out that i had forgot to log completely out after adding to group scanner, scanimage -L worked as root it works now I apologize for wasting your time :) I had the feeling it was something simple, hehe.. I did however try to chmod 777 /dev/usbdev* because i am not used to libusb :) michael at mws:~% scanimage -L device `v4l:/dev/video0' is a Noname Philips 740 webcam virtual device device `plustek:libusb:001:038' is a Canon CanoScan N650U/N656U flatbed scanner unfortunately the scanner does not work (it used to with another kernel and computer, with debian etch - now it is lenny) the problem: when scanning and the head is about to reposition itself after the scan it makes some loud noise as though it is about to destroy itself (but the scanner head is only at the border of the small 10x5cm document). Sounds like the head moves in the wrong direction (as though it tries to instruct it to move back while it is moving forth) the problem is reproducible if i try to scan before the head has repositioned itself back after acquiring preview, then the scanner head stops and the scanner makes a very loud noise as though it tries to move the scanner head forth while it is being moved back into place. will try to see if upgrading sane to testing or unstable fixes it, i hope so (as the scanner has been working before with libusb). It might be a semidefect scanner when it gets stuck i can only get it to move back if i shake it a bit, else it just keeps being stuck somewhere when i press scan before the head is in position. if i wait patiently and never press scan before the head has come back to the start it seems to work now. so I guess the problem has solved itself, thanks for any help offered. [sane-devel] [Fwd: Subject:-Crashing Fire fox browser when running SaneAppletExample.java.]
amit- I'm sorry, but there don't seem to be many (any?) java developers in our ranks, and the existing java bindings are basically unsupported, so I think you are on your own. You do have the source to look at however :) allan On Sun, Jun 28, 2009 at 9:00 AM, Henning Geinitzsane at geinitz.org wrote: FYI Original-Nachricht Betreff: ? ? ? ?Subject:-Crashing Fire fox browser when running SaneAppletExample.java. [sane-devel] [PATCH] Avision backend: Mark FCPA 620C with AV_LIGHT_CHECK_BOGUS
On Tue, Jun 23, 2009 at 6:29 AM, Ozan ?a?layanozan at pardus.org.tr wrote: Ozan ?a?layan wrote On 23-06-2009 12:48: backend/avision.c: Mark Fujitsu ScanPartner 620C with AV_LIGHT_CHECK_BOGUS as it currently refuses to work through avision after 90 tries: BTW, the scanner works well with sp15c backend and it's marked as *good* in avision.c. So it's possible that the previous patch is not the optimal solution to the problem if it was working OK some time ago. Tested with 1.0.19 and 1.0.20. I will commit your patch, since it is easy to revert. The avision backend author may be able to comment further on the status. And an additional question: Both avision and sp15c seem to support this device. What is the policy about those situations in sane-backends? Is there a some sort of *recommended* flag to mark a backend more stable than other or is the backend selection completely left to the user? Well, in this particular case I think the sp15c backend probably supported these Avision-built Fujitsu machines better at one time, but that driver is unmaintained now. On the other hand, the avision backend supports a huge number of machines, so unintended regressions can sometimes be a problem. allan -- The truth is an offense, but not a sin
