The problem is (probably) not so much the programming, but
knowing the machine codes. Unless someone does a good job of
bus traffic sniffing, it is not possible to do much.

Is there a tool for searching the Archives for info about scanner chips,
etc.?
I also an owner of the 4200f and I searched for information of the Chips
inside this scanner a while ago. According to this site the chips are:

Dave or some one else, do you have usb sniffer logs of this
scanner somewhere? I would like to see the log of the boot
of the scanner, since that would give some hint of what
the controller chip is (or is not). In particular I could
help you exclude the M5623 :), the one in the predecessor
