[sane-devel] Backend for Relisys Teco Mercury 3600 VM3582

2006-09-20 Thread Daniel Rößel
Hi Everyone,

I recently got a friend's old parallel scanner Relisys Mercury 3600
(identical to Teco Mercury 3600 VM3582) and found out that it's not
supported by sane (yet!).

Does anyone plan on writing a backend? I couldn't find much in the
mailing lists, probably due to the scanner being such a piece of junk.
However, I need a bit of programming practise anyway, so I'll give it a
try and try to write a backend myself.

Please contact me if you've already tried to write one or would like to.

As my programming skills are rather limited, help will be greatly
appreciated.

The existing three teco backends are all for SCSI-Scanners, so I guess
just tweaking them a bit won't make the parallel scanner work with them.

So long,
Daniel

[sane-devel] Epson 2450 found by sane-find-scanner but not by scanimage

 Hi,

 printer which works really well.
 The Distro uses
 xsane 0.991_2tex
 sane-backends 1.0.18-1tex
 libusb 1.0.18-1tex
 kernel is 2.6.16.27.tex1.lve for i686
 kde version 3.5.3

I am unable to get the scanner to work.
It has worked before with Xandros3.0.2 and does with the simplymepis6
livecd. So I know that the cables etc are ok.

When booted with the scanner on

 sane-find-scanner results in

  # Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be
 supported by
  # SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage.

 scanimage -L
No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

this is both as root and as normal user.

I have tried specifying the usb vendor and device in the epson.conf and
 epkowa.conf files in /etc/sane.d

 I have also modified /etc/udev/rules.d/70-libsane.rules

 ACTION!=add, GOTO=libsane_rules_end
 SUBSYSTEM!=usb_device, GOTO=libsane_rules_end
 as suggested for Iscan at

 http://www.avasys.jp/english/linux_e/faq_scan.html

 ACTION!=add, GOTO=libsane_rules_end
 SUBSYSTEM!=usb, GOTO=libsane_rules_end

 but this doesnt work.

 #lsusb states
Bus 004 Device 004: ID 04b8:0112 Seiko Epson Corp. Perfection 2450
 Bus 004 Device 001: ID :

 Bus 001 Device 003: ID 03f0:050c Hewlett-Packard 5219 Wireless Keyboard
 Bus 001 Device 001: ID :

If I switch the scanner off and on I then get

 # scanimage -L
device `epkowa:libusb:004:005' is a Epson Perfection 2450 flatbed scanner
 # scanimage image.pnm
 scanimage: no SANE devices found

Whatever I try I cant seem to get to see the device. I would be grateful
for any help to resolve this.
 Similar problems exist with Xandros4.0
 thanks
 Tom

I've got a scanner like yours, on a SuSE installation
I found, that downgrading the USB to ver. 1.1 solved the problem, but
that it was'nt acceptable, so I bought a firewire cable, and now it runs
at full speed.

Hi!

I see my self as a programmer, though it's been a while I've written in C.
So I'd like some guidence on how to communicate with a usb device in C, as
I've primariely done GUI, cryptographic and socket programming in C++.

Greetings and best wishes

Hi!

I have a CanoScan 8400F. As far as I can see from the specification pages of
the 2 scanners on sane-project, they share exactly 1 chip and have a very
similar second chip. However USB chip seems to be differnt.
Also, from the specification on the canon homepage they seem similar.

As mentioned in an earlier post, I am not a programmer but willing to help
in the development of the genesys-backend (to which the 8400F is supposed to
be added). So perhaps, a very similar driver will drive both scanners, at
least in the basic functionality. Perhaps I could help you?

Wolfgang Sailer

Hello to all,
Hope all will be well. I am a S/W Developer. I have developed a Data
Management System (DMS) using LAMP for our KPO (Knowledge Process
Outsourcing) wing. Using that DMS all our client send their data (as image
files), KPO guys process it and send output (in PDF) to client by using
DMS.
Right Now, the clients upload their data in two steps...
  1. Scan (convert) their text file into image file (jpeg/tif/pdf)
using scanner hardware at their end.
  2. upload it on DMS for further process.
Now We the IT guys what exactly wants is,
Give the scan-upload option on DMS (i.e. when the client will click
on scan option on DMS the DMS must be able to scan all his documents by
using his / her scanner device autometically and upload it on
concerning server directory.)
Our DMS is a web based soulution for client interaction (to get
data,to produce output), so client may be at any location at the world using
different scanners.
then how your SANE Api is rellivent in this regard and if it so, how
can i use it in my existing DMS system.
  I am in great need..
  So please help me
  Regds,
  Rajneesh Kumar

Hello,

a user reported to us that the Epson Stylus CX4800 (0x4b8/0x419)
works perfectly with the epson backend if the USB IDs are
added to epson.conf, see
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=206428

Up to now it seems only the epkowa backend (version 2.1.0)
knows about this model, see
http://www.sane-project.org/cgi-bin/driver.pl?manu=epsonmodel=cx4800

Kind Regards
Johannes Meixner
