I just clean installed Ubuntu Karmic after having had my first, most
pleasant experience with Ubuntu 9.04.
I use Canoscan LIDE 50 as my scanner, which is supported. On Ubuntu 9.04
it worked out of the box without any problem.

I have a bunch of old documents that are on old facsimile paper and can
therefore not be scanned by our avision document scanner -- unless they are
first photocopied. Instead of buying a photocopier. I was considering just
buying an inexpensive flatbed scanner and was wondering if someone
