with a plustek scanner (Canon LIDE 30) and libusb:
grinding
noise and scanner head moving forth and back while scan 200dpi.
Can anybody help me sort this out?

the scanner with
scsi or scanner-server (rj45), so the scanner isn't wrecked.
I cannot use the SCSI feature on this computer though - and I don't have
the scanner server here, that's why I want to use it with USB.

but the speed is the
same as with normal speed still when scanning, i would think that this could
fix the going
back and forth of the scanning head because of the scanners potential
usb-1.1 bottleneck ?

not so often at slow speed - tested with 200dpi
is it possible to set scan speed with some argument to sane backend or
such with hp libusb driver?
