Currently on holidays with limited internet access with a mobile phone, I'll
be able to look to this point next week.

Thanks Sam and Dennis for these explanations, I think also that buffer
overflow risk is now very unlikely to happen:
- The read function now requests the exact count of bytes to read from usb,
which secures against device misbehaving
- A failing usb stack that would return more bytes than
Or perhaps: PIXMA_CAP_ADF_AND_ADFDUP ...
Anyway, let me know if you have any code update to perform.

Should we probably change also its name to sthg more explicit, like
PIXMA_CAP_ADF_OR_ADFDUP ?

Yep, you?re right, there?s a change to apply to pixma.c, will update it as
well.
The PIXMA_CAP_ADFDUP looks to be a a ?double flag?:
#define PIXMA_CAP_ADFDUP ((1 7) | PIXMA_CAP_ADF)
Should we probably change also its name to sthg more explicit, like
PIXMA_CAP_ADF_OR_ADFDUP ?
BTW, did
Updated the pixma external desc file, and renamed MultiPass MP710/MP740 to
Pixma MP710/MP740 as suggested in desc and man files.

Just to chime in here: Nicolas, the MP710 is a PIXMA device, and the

Hi,
MP710 which is similar to MP740, look to be from the same generation as
MP730 ?
It could be worth trying to use current MP730 Sane driver on your MP710, and
see how it goes ?
In that case, I can easily produce a test driver version for MP710 to use
MP730 driver, that you could try.

Could you try the following Pixma package. Download it from sendspace.com at

And use instructions given on this blog to install and test it:

Ok Allan, sounds great, the modifications for those new Pixma MPs (210, 520,
610) is worth maximum ~100 lines of code, so this will be pretty easy. BTW,
I already took a look at current libsane CVS pixma files, there seems to be
very few modifications from previous pixma 0.13.1 version.
FYI,

Can anyone shed some light on SANE support for the Canon PIXMA MP140

supported devices list but not the MP140.
MP140 is a new model, while MP130 and 150 older.
Maybe the protocol changed significantly between
