This almost looks like a network/firewall/router/content filtering
problem of some sort. Are you able to connect to other XMPP servers?
Is it possible some corporate or school firewall is blocking outgoing
connections to port 5222? Or maybe a local software firewall is
blocking it?
FYI my
I am able to connect to Gtalk through pidgin (don't know whether Gtalk
has/uses XMPP servers)
