Job Title: UNIX/Linux Systems Administrators - 16 Openings Location: New York, NY Duration: 10 Months Rate: $50/Hr Client: NYSE Description: * On-site - Lends to flexibility and amount of testing conducted in a specific time frame. * Knowledge of both Unix and Linux OS systems * Extensive knowledge and experience in writing scripts, carrying out testing, and changing system configurations * Knowledge base of HP Openview, Automated Job Schedulers (Tidal) * Knowledge base of Automatic Distribution Software (Perforce or Tivoli) * ITIL foundation training (understanding of change, incident, and configuration management) * Familiar with distributed data processing (server communications from D B to gateways) * Shift work of 10 and 12 hours required, weekdays/ weekends (shifts will be broken out by weekdays and weekend specific shifts) * Start and control computer system(s) on schedule by means of computer system console, operator checklists, and third-party software. * Recognize and interpret all application software error messages displayed on console, as well as system problems, degradation in system or network performance, and execution bottlenecks. Take corrective action on most complex problems, including use of third-party support software, and inform supervisor, management or customer as appropriate. * Take incoming, regarding communications/network, problems. Troubleshoot most complex problems, take corrective action as appropriate and/or escalate to manager or management to ensure the user is satisfied. * Create and maintain clear and concise status reports, job-related documentation and proper computer operating records; issue reports to management on a daily basis. * Test recovery/emergency routines using established written procedures. * Execution of OPS Testing. * Monitors deviations from normal system processing in all systems and recommends modifications to hardware and software to correct the problem. * Is responsive to changes in priorities and flexible in the matrix of project management. * Creates and reviews system and user procedures, operation procedures, and technical documentation. * Participates in discussions of technical issues with peers and other departments and attend regular meetings with various department and or groups. * Adhere to corporate/department data security policies and procedures. * Strong knowledge of software and hardware networking and desktop applications. * Excellent problem solving skills ability to recognize routine technical and operational problems. * Demonstrate above-average reliability, flexibility, and attention to detail. * Prioritize and perform multiple dissimilar tasks simultaneously. * Capability to learn new job-related and application terminology. * Knowledge of securities industry and financial markets a plus. * Strong written and verbal communication skills. * All positions require familiarity with a variety of hardware, operating systems, supporting software, third-party products, system components, as well as understanding of networking topologies and protocols.
