AJ,
Do you have any idea when the intermod was first discovered on 1940 kHz?
That might be a useful information for the chief engineer of the two stations.

Glad you have at lest identified the source of this problem . . .
Back in the 70s suddenly a spurious signal appeared on 1880kHz.
You could clearly hear that it was two stations from a local BBC AM
Transmitter mixing together. This was very annoying, as it was one of the
main SSB frequencies.
I had a similar situation on VHF. I operate on 222 MHz among other nose
bleed bands, and was greeted by a very large chunk of RFI in the SSB/CW
portion of 220. Others in northern New England were hearing it too. It
was loudest at my QTH. I identified some of the programming as that of

Hi Everyone
I would like to thank everyone that has helped on and off the list in
finding the possible stations causing the mix.

Hi Jim,
The AM radio stations are required to do the annual measurements per the
current FCC rules and I have indeed been shown the measurement data at
transmitter sites I have visited. The FCC does not do the measurements,
they just require them to be done and the small stations I have gone to

This was certainly true when I worked in broadcasting 60 years ago, but

Hi Frank and gang,
I might be able to help provide some additional insight/direction. This is
not necessarily a case of having to show harmful interference, as the AM
Broadcasters are held to some very stringent spurious emission limits and
the stations actually go through a periodic inspection
Hello AJ,
Topbanders have done an excellent job of precisely identifying the source
of the 1940 kHz intermod.
I don't think its helpful for those of who are not being harmed to lodge
a complaint with the FCC. Its the responsibility of those being
harmed t file a complaint. Those being
