If that doesn't work, I may return to computer-based upsampling.

You could try to always run the PrefPane in 32bit mode:

Hi,
is there any way to stream my music direcly from pc over the squeezebox.
I´ll use the wifi feature to avoid cables. Perhaps theres a way to
connect the pc to an external playback device.

If you want to stream music from your PC to Squeezebox, just install
Logitech Media Server on that PC.

If I understand your question, the answer is a qualified yes. The
Squeezebox radio has a speaker so you can stream from your PC to it w no
other equipment needed. With the Squeezebox Touch you must connect it to
an amplifier or powered speakers.

If a file can be played natively by WMP then you should be able to right
click on the file and select the device you want to play the file to.

To set the duration of the alarm, go to Server Settings.
Go to the Player tab
Choose player from the drop down menu and choose Alarm from the other
drop down menu
On the Alarm Timeout select the number of minutes the alarm runs
