Network issues can be hard to diagnose. First thing, I'd set my wifi
channel to something else (1, 6, or 11), reboot my router, and reboot my
server.
All else fails, figure out a way to get ethernet to your Touch or use
Powerline adapters.
Touch is natively able to process 24/96 (and can pass up to 24/192 to an
external DAC with optional "Enhanced Digital Output" applet). My guess
is that a network bottleneck is the source of your issue. Is your Touch
wired or wireless?

Other than that, I'd wait for more responses to decide what to do. If
you only have a Touch, that message makes no sense. The "Version
Comparison Fix" only applied to the Radio.
It can, but the server is not that robust. A USB flash drive is what
was in mind when it was designed; a big USB hard drive with a lot of
files will make it slow to respond.
Don't update to the "Community Firmware" as it removes this capability.
You only need EDO if you want to play files above 24/96; it has no
effect on "sound quality". The DAC in the Touch has held up
surprisingly well, but there's no harm in trying a newer external DAC.

copying things around, you've probably changed them all. If you are

192, optical can be sketchy over long run or on cheap cable so recommend
coax for those cases.
The easiest way is to "reserve" an IP for your Touch via your router;

Are you thinking about running a hard drive directly into your Touch?
If so, don't do it. It's a recipe for disappointment. Run Logitech
Media Server on a proper PC with as big a hard drive as you need. The
Touch (wired or wireless) becomes a streamer for LMS which is the way it
works best.
Touch SPDIF and analog outs are always both active unless you've
disabled one using EDO.
Why not uninstall EDO and use SPDIF?

suggest a Raspberry Pi running piCorePlayer.
You might try rewriting the firmware. Put the BIN file on a USB or SD
drive, unplug the Touch, insert drive, plug back in. With luck it will
post to the point of reading the drive and asking to update firmware.
