[Touch-packages] [Bug 2053228] Re: software-properties-gtk does not start

2024-03-20 Thread Zalán Hári
My original, duplicate report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/2055007

I thought that if I have a patch, I can change the status to „Fix
Release”. Then I realized the problem, but I was unable to find that
bug.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2056696] Re: All Snaps are denied the ability to use DBus for notifications and apptray indicators in KDE-based flavors

2024-03-20 Thread Alex Murray
Ok whilst I still can't see the /StatusNotifierItem object listed via
d-feet I can reproduce the denials when launching element-desktop so I
have added some additional changes to the aforementioned PR which
resolve these as well. With all the changes from that PR in place all of
these mentioned denials are resolved.

Title:
  All Snaps are denied the ability to use DBus for notifications and
  apptray indicators in KDE-based flavors

Status in snapd:
  In Progress
Status in apparmor package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  OS: Kubuntu Noble 24.04 Alpha (two-day old install)
  snapd version: 2.61.2
  Affected Snaps: firefox, thunderbird, element-desktop

  Steps to reproduce:

  # For Firefox:
  1. Open the Firefox Snap.
  2. Open https://www.bennish.net/web-notifications.html.
  3. Click "Authorize" and allow the website to send notifications.
  4. Click "Show".
  Expected result: A notification should be displayed by Plasma, similar to
other notifications the system displays.
  Actual result: The notification shows up in the upper-right corner of the
display, improperly themed and obviously generated by Firefox as a fallback.

  # For Thunderbird:
  1. Open the Thunderbird Snap.
  2. Ensure you are connected to an email account.
  3. Unfocus the Thunderbird window.
  4. Wait for an email to come through.
  Expected result: When the email comes through, a notification should be
displayed by Plasma, similar to other notifications the system displays.
  Actual result: The notification shows up improperly themed and obviously
generated by Thunderbird as a fallback.

  # For Element:
  1. Open the Element Snap.
  Expected result: An apptray indicator should appear in the system tray with
the Element logo.
  Actual result: No such indicator appears.
  2. Log in, ask someone to ping you, then unfocus the window and wait for the
ping to come through.
  Expected result: A notification should be displayed by Plasma, similar to
other notifications the system displays.
  Actual result: No notification appears at all.

  Additional information:

  Based on the output of snappy-debug, this appears to be AppArmor related, at

  Booting with `apparmor=0` set on the kernel command line fixes the
  issue with Element (apptray indicator appears, notifications show up).
  Obviously this is not a solution, but it does isolate AppArmor as

Is there any way I can debug this further?

Ah although it seems I can reboot the VM at this point and whilst
Calamares appeared to run again again in the rebooted vm if I choose
Install Calamares closes and I see the installed kubuntu environment -
weird

Anyway I think I will be able to use this to debug the original issue
further - will continue and let you know what I find.

Yes I hit that exact issue in Calamares but after fixing it I then hit
another similar crash in a different script in calamares - will see if I
can reproduce and provide you with details.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2033892] Re: ls -l triggers mount of autofs shares when --ghost option is present or browse_mode is enabled

2024-03-20 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Performing verification for Jammy

I set up two Jammy VMs, one a nfs-server and the other an autofs/nfs-
client.

The client is using coreutils 8.32-4.1ubuntu1.1 from -updates.

$ apt-cache policy coreutils | grep Installed
  Installed: 8.32-4.1ubuntu1.1

I set up the nfs server and autofs mounts as the Testcase indicates.

$ ls -l
ls: cannot access 'export-missing': No such file or directory
total 4
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Mar 20 22:16 export
d? ? ??   ?? export-missing

$ mount -l | grep mnt2
/etc/auto.indirect on /mnt2 type autofs
(rw,relatime,fd=6,pgrp=692,timeout=300,minproto=5,maxproto=5,indirect,pipe_ino=21588)
192.168.122.65:/export on /mnt2/export type nfs
(rw,relatime,vers=3,rsize=524288,wsize=524288,namlen=255,hard,proto=tcp,timeo=600,retrans=2,sec=sys,mountaddr=192.168.122.65,mountvers=3,mountport=47718,mountproto=udp,local_lock=none,addr=192.168.122.65)

The mounts were previously unmounted, but when I issue 'ls -l', the
mounts occur, which is not wanted, and we error out on the non-existant
export-missing mount.

I then enabled -proposed, and installed coreutils 8.32-4.1ubuntu1.2.

$ apt-cache policy coreutils | grep Installed
  Installed: 8.32-4.1ubuntu1.2

From there, lets try the 'ls -l':

$ ls -l
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Mar 20 22:25 export
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Mar 20 22:25 export-missing

$ mount -l | grep mnt2
/etc/auto.indirect on /mnt2 type autofs
(rw,relatime,fd=6,pgrp=648,timeout=300,minproto=5,maxproto=5,indirect,pipe_ino=16856)

This time the mounts do not occur, we just get a listing of the possible
autofs mounts. We can confirm with 'mount -l' that nothing was actually
actioned.

The package in -proposed fixes the issues. Happy to mark verified for
Jammy.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  Issuing a 'ls -l' or a 'stat' on an autofs share when you have set
  --ghost in the auto.master file, or browse_mode=yes in autofs.conf
  will lead to the shares being mounted, when they didn't previously.

  Disks / shares may not be present and the mounts may fail, leading to
  errors in your output.

  This is a behaviour change in autofs 8.32, which occurred in the
  transition to using statx() instead of stat()/lstat() in previous
  releases.

  There doesn't seem to be any workarounds, apart from not running a 'ls
  -l' in your autofs share directory.

  [Testcase]

  Start two Jammy VMs. One will be a NFS server, the other, the client.

  NFS server:

  Server VM:
  $ sudo hostnamectl set-hostname jammy-nfs-server
  $ sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y
  $ sudo apt install nfs-kernel-server
  $ sudo mkdir /export
  $ sudo mkdir /export/users
  $ sudo vi /etc/exports # add the following lines:
  /export 192.168.122.0/24(rw,fsid=0,no_subtree_check,sync)
  /export/users 192.168.122.0/24(rw,nohide,insecure,no_subtree_check,sync)
  $ sudo systemctl restart nfs-server.service

  AutoFS Client:
  $ sudo apt update
  $ sudo apt install autofs
  $ sudo vim /etc/autofs.conf
  browse_mode = yes
  $ sudo mkdir /mnt2
  $ sudo vim /etc/auto.master
  /mnt2 /etc/auto.indirect
  $ sudo vim /etc/auto.indirect
  export 192.168.122.18:/export
  export-missing 192.168.122.18:/export-missing
  $ sudo reboot
  $ cd /mnt2
  $ ls -l
  ls: cannot access 'export-missing': No such file or directory
  total 4
  drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Feb 12 21:48 export
  d? ? ??   ?? export-missing
  $ mount -l | grep /mnt2
  /etc/auto.indirect on /mnt2 type autofs
(rw,relatime,fd=6,pgrp=634,timeout=300,minproto=5,maxproto=5,indirect,pipe_ino=21561)
  192.168.122.18:/export on /mnt2/export type nfs
(rw,relatime,vers=3,rsize=524288,wsize=524288,namlen=255,hard,proto=tcp,timeo=600,retrans=2,sec=sys,mountaddr=192.168.122.18,mountvers=3,mountport=35786,mountproto=udp,local_lock=none,addr=192.168.122.18)

  We see the mount for export occurred, and export-missing was
  attempted, but it was either bogus or the disk was not present,
  leading to a "No such file or directory" error.

  There are test packages available in the following ppa:

  https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/sf378489-test

  If you install them, this is what should occur:

  $ ls -l
  total 0
  drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Feb 12 22:01 export
  drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Feb 12 22:01 export-missing
  $ mount -l | grep /mnt2
  /etc/auto.indirect on /mnt2 type autofs

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2056696] Re: All Snaps are denied the ability to use DBus for notifications and apptray indicators in KDE-based flavors

2024-03-20 Thread Aaron Rainbolt
I assume you didn't install Kubuntu Noble on a VM due to a Calamares bug
who's fix isn't managing to migrate out of -proposed. There's a fairly
easy workaround for that issue (`vim /lib/x86_64-linux-
gnu/calamares/modules/networkcfg/main.py`, search for "0o" via `/0o` and
then change the `f` to `f.fileno()`, save and quit with `:wq` and then
everything works), so you might try that. (It might also work to just
install Calamares from noble-proposed while on the live ISO, then
install.)

You can probably compare your list of installed packages with the list
of packages in the latest Kubuntu Noble ISO's manifest
(https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/daily-live/pending/noble-desktop-
amd64.manifest) to see what you're missing, but if you have an
additional DE installed alongside, a component of it could be
interfering with reproducing the bug.

Status in snapd:
  New
Status in apparmor package in Ubuntu:

  Booting with `apparmor=0` set on the kernel command line fixes the

  Obviously this is not a solution, but it does isolate AppArmor as

Bug description:
  Thank you @jbicha for the original bug report!

  [ Impact ]

  Currently ppa-purge fails to purge packages on distribution using the deb822
source format. Currently mantic and noble make use of this format and are
affected by this issue.
  When running ppa-purge to remove a custom PPA, ppa-purge fails to disable the
custom PPA since it cannot disable deb822 sources and leads to apt still
querying the ppa when running:

  $ apt update

  In older versions of ubuntu, PPAs used the ".list" format which could be
disabled by simply commenting out the "deb" line with a "#". This was the
method that ppa-purge used to disable PPAs.
  This new patch allows ppa-purge to detect and disable deb822 source files by
adding an "Enabled: no" field in each component section of the deb822 file. It
also removes any line that starts with "Enabled:"
  to make sure the resulting file is clean.

  [ Test Plan ]

  The changes were tested on both mantic and noble in a lxc container using the
oibaf mesa PPA (https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive/ubuntu/graphics-drivers)
as the test PPA.
  The following steps were recorded in a noble lxc container.

   - First make sure that mesa-utils is installed in your environment:
  $ sudo apt update && sudo apt install mesa-utils

   - Add the oibaf PPA to your system using the following command:
  $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers

   - Make sure that the mesa-utils packages were upgraded after adding the PPA:
  $ sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
  $ dpkg - l | grep mesa

   - output should be similar to the following:

  ii  libegl-mesa0:amd64  24.1~git2402280600.41722c~oibaf~n
  amd64free implementation of the EGL API -- Mesa vendor library
  ii  libgl1-mesa-dri:amd64   24.1~git2402280600.41722c~oibaf~n
  amd64free implementation of the OpenGL API -- DRI modules
  ii  libglapi-mesa:amd64 24.1~git2402280600.41722c~oibaf~n
  amd64free implementation of the GL API -- shared library
  ii  libglx-mesa0:amd64  24.1~git2402280600.41722c~oibaf~n
  amd64free implementation of the OpenGL API -- GLX vendor library
  ii  mesa-utils  9.0.0-2
  amd64Miscellaneous Mesa utilities -- symlinks
  ii  mesa-utils-bin:amd649.0.0-2
  amd64Miscellaneous Mesa utilities -- native applications
  ii  mesa-vulkan-drivers:amd64   24.1~git2402280600.41722c~oibaf~n
  amd64Mesa Vulkan graphics drivers

   - Install and run ppa-purge:
  $ sudo apt install ppa-purge
  $ sudo ppa-purge ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers

   - ppa-purge will report at the end that none of the oibaf packages
  need to be downgraded/removed:

  In my installation I've updated the installer to "edge/lp-2009141" (subiquity
 22.02.2+git1762.1b1ee6f4  5164).

  During my installations I first noticed bad response times in case of
  dealing with devices (like enabling new devices with chzdev). chzdev
  is used during the installation, hence the installation procedure is
  also affected by this. (I mainly notice this issue in case of DASD
  ECKD disk enablements.)

  But even after after a successful (but due to this issue less snappier)
installation, means after the post-install reboot, in the installed system I
can find several udev related processes, like:
69448 root  20   0   31280  11944   2560 S  39.2   0.0   2:51.67
(udev-worker)
  509 root  20   0   31276  13812   4600 S  20.6   0.0   2:07.76
systemd-udevd
  893 root  20   0  469016  13544  10496 R  17.3   0.0   1:43.53
udisksd
1 root  20   0  168664  12748   8396 S  16.3   0.0   1:40.47
systemd
  which is not only unusual, but (as one can see) they consume quite some
resources.
  Even the remote ssh into that system is impacted by this high load.

  So far I only see this in mantic.
  I tried 20.04.3 as well as lunar, but both do not seem to be affected by this
udev problem.
  I neither face the bad response on device enablement, nor can see any udev
related processes still running after post-install-reboot in the installed
system.

  (Sometimes I could also see a growing log file 'syslog').

  I cannot say yet what is causing this, but since I see 'systemd-udevd'
  as prominent process in top, I'll first of all mark this as affecting
  systemd-udevd (or systemd).

  I've attached the outcome of some more investigations I did ...

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2055226] Re: mount option `users` blocks ntfs to mount

2024-03-20 Thread UlfZibis
In the latest man pages I recently found:

Since util-linux 2.35, mount does not exit when user permissions are
inadequate according to libmount’s internal security rules. Instead, it
drops suid permissions and continues as regular non-root user. This
behavior supports use-cases where root permissions are not necessary
(e.g., fuse filesystems, user namespaces, etc).

With this new rule the "regression" concerning `mount` is explainable.

So please add a link to this note at the description of the `user(s)`
options.

Still existing: The buggy behaviour with `udisksctl mount`.

  This worked fine until Ubuntu 20.04, but since 22.04 I have these
  errors.

  Additionally, mount option `users` does not, what it should do:

  $ LC_ALL=C mount /media/Sicherung

  Failed to mount '/dev/sda7': Permission denied
  Please check '/dev/sda7' and the ntfs-3g binary permissions,

  When removing `users` from /etc/fstab, it works fine:

  $ gio mount -d /dev/sda7

configuration type 7
  Feb 28 00:05:31 T500 udisksd[583]: Mounted /dev/sda7 (system) at
/media/Sicherung on behalf of uid 1000

  So it seems, that option `users` virtually effectuates the opposite,
  than it is supposed to do.

  $ apt update

  $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers

   - Make sure that the mesa-utils packages were upgraded after adding the PPA:
  $ sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
  $ dpkg - l | grep mesa

   - output should be similar to the following:

  ii  libegl-mesa0:amd64  24.1~git2402280600.41722c~oibaf~n
  amd64free implementation of the EGL API -- Mesa vendor library
  ii  libgl1-mesa-dri:amd64   24.1~git2402280600.41722c~oibaf~n
  amd64free implementation of the OpenGL API -- DRI modules
  ii  libglapi-mesa:amd64 24.1~git2402280600.41722c~oibaf~n
  amd64free implementation of the GL API -- shared library
  ii  libglx-mesa0:amd64  24.1~git2402280600.41722c~oibaf~n

  ii  mesa-utils-bin:amd649.0.0-2

  ii  mesa-vulkan-drivers:amd64   24.1~git2402280600.41722c~oibaf~n
  amd64Mesa Vulkan graphics drivers

   - Install and run ppa-purge:
  $ sudo apt install ppa-purge
  $ sudo ppa-purge ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers

   - ppa-purge will report at the end that none of the oibaf packages
  need to be downgraded/removed:
