User A logs in. glxgears runs at 1214 fps. The gears rotate smoothly,
3D acceleration is visually OK.
User B logs in, glxgears says it runs at only 286 fps. But visually

I also have a problem that wasn't there a few weeks ago in hardy. In the
vt I see nothing but the blinking cursor. It does work though, I can use
it blindly, log in, kill some process or start something, but no text is
showing up. For me it's also a radeon card but I'm running on iBook G4

I noticed this same thing while trying to setup a system using an Asus
Striker II Formula MB and two 750GB drives as RAID1 yesterday. dmraid
-ay produces no errors, and dmraid -r (and -s) has the right output, but
the /dev/mapper device never gets created.
I just went ahead an used softraid for
btw - I was using 8.04 and the latest dmraid from the repos.

Could this be a GTK issue? I just observed that opening 'Gnome System
Monitor', then chosing it's 'Resources' tab (the one showing graphs of
load and memory usage) shoots X load to 50% (from 5-10%). At the same
time Firefox becomes very jerky, e.g. scrolling is jerky, typing in
