That fix is most likely for the legacy ide driver. There hasn't been
activity in the kernel bugzilla to indicate that there is a fix. I've

Pwc is another driver indeed. The problem was that preloading libv4l
actually broke the other driver. The newest libv4l-0 (0.5.2-1~dooz1 )
fixes the problem for me. Now both with and without LD_PRELOAD the
webcam works again with the pwc driver.

Got very similar problem with nm but with 2.6.24-21.
It looks to me that it may be related to the signal strength and or the
proximity of another AP with signal level close to the one to which i'm
connected at the moment.
If I work at a couple of meter from my home AP nm seems to never lose
IIRC, Debian Etch ship with the older GnomeVFS instead of the newer
GVFS, which would explain why you do not get the problem using it.

using Nvidia (GF4 Ti4200) at the time so maybe there is something wrong
with nvidia closed driver and not gnome/libSDL
