I completed another successful install with the Wacom tablet unplugged
and without touching anything to verify that the screen blanking was not
involved. I then shut it down after logging into the new system and
verifying there were no errors and shut it down. I plugged the Wacom

Well, testing Intrepid BETA, i MUST report that:
1) Kernel 2.6.27-6 fixed the problem!!!
2) BUT with current Kernel 2.6.27-7 we had a regression to the initial error.

As an update to this, I've played with s2disk and s2both from the
package uswsusp. Before doing this, I cleared my syslog.

Played with this some more - The fglrx module doesn't load on it's own at boot.
There's no evidence of an attempt to load in dmesg until I manually tried with
modprobe -a fglrx

Twinview doesn't behave quite the same as on 8.04, in that wallpaper
doesn't run across both screens in 8.10 - they have to be set
individually.

Just a thought. Unlike most of my icons at the top right of the screen,
the volume control appears on the second x screen whereas the rest
don't. Could the two instances of the volume control be battling over
handing the key event somehow or are keys only directed to the in-focus
screen?

I experience sililar problems with echoes and skips every second or so, but
