Are the clients never getting the GUI?
I've got a 9.10 LTSP install where a client has about a 60% chance of
getting LDM on bootup, the rest of the time I'm just getting the chroot
text login as described. Does this sound like the same problem or

the actual kernel option that causes the hang is splash.
The framebuffer options don't make a difference at all here.

I can't reproduce this in 8.04 LTS. The scripts in rcS start before rc2,
so the script ordering is correct. The only time this condition will
occur is if ntpd is started before AppArmor, or the profile is removed
from the kernel then added back while ntpd is running.

or something, considering how both used Xubuntu, but I suppose someone
more capable than will be able to find the correct package now.
