We've tried a number of things now, including the workarounds above and
updating the firmware on the system and RAID controller. More details:

attempting to boot, and we can't invoke the grub menu at all.

Maybe Lucid's Xorg has a fault in it that has since been fixed.
Depending on the circumstances, I may have an opportunity to get a test
OS online sometime this week. If I do, I shall try updating with the
xorg PPAs.

Unfortunately a lot of BIOSes are broken and report a wrong lid status.
The only reliable method of knowing the lid status is seeing it
changing, so we shouldn't make g-p-m depend on the initially reported

In a 5.1 analog output setup, adjusting volume in gnome-volume-control
will raise and lower the master volume. That is ok, what's not is that
it also moves all the pcm levels to 100 thereby creating possible
distortion and or clipping.

and all was fine.

I do not believe that it is reproducible. Volume controls has changed
considerably from the two pictures I had posted long ago. I believe the
old release had pulseaudio volume control installed, that does not
appear to be the case anymore. Lucid no longer has that under the sound

I use getmail4 to fetch mails and try to deliver them using maildrop as
an MDA. For each mail fetched, maildrop seems to be returning the
following error:
msg 1/1 (7036 bytes), delivery error (command maildrop 10858 error
The error message is odd, since at this location the type Hnum *is*
used.
Maybe this is actually a bug in the host Ada compiler used to build
this, which appears to come from the gcc-snapshots package.

I'm also hitting this problem. Obviously the correct solution is to
move nis to use upstart and then make autofs depend on nis being up. In
the interim, I've modified autofs.conf to wait for the rc process to
finish:
start on (filesystem
and net-device-up IFACE!=lo
and
I can perfectly reproduce the double-suspend on my Dell Latitude D430,
and am investigating it now. Bug reported upstream, I'll follow up with
the techy details there.
