If there was only one device in the previous device.map, then I follow
exactly that logic - there's no chance of you having picked the wrong

This makes very little sense to me. If mirrors are filtering out
specific files there is nothing short of a full scan of all files that
might help, adding a few sets of files as random probes seems like a
weird way of finding that out.

The intrinsic defaults are the same, but ubiquity uses GeoIP data to
figure out your current location automatically and sets that as your
country. If you choose the UK as your country in d-i, you'll see the
same effects on the keyboard configuration module.

The problem seems to be that in __xmlParserInputBufferCreateFilename()
in xmlIO.c, the pointer returned by cptr = (char *) ((z_stream
*)context)-next_in; at line 2523 is invalid.
I made an ugly patch where I commented the strncmp and always set
ret-compressed to zero and it solves the problem
A new gnome-shell has been released, version 2.31.5-2ubuntu1.
That one has new issues, but it does start and works anyway.
So this bug has been fixed.

A few days ago, I have updated to Maverick Meerkat Alpha 3 and the 3G
connection works again.
So if they don't change to much until the release at modem-manager and
NetworkManager this problem should be solved with a update to 10.10.
