A: You will either need gnome-screensaver and gnome-power-manager running, or
none of those two. Totem talks to gnome-screensaver to stop the screensaver

Disable special CPU/motherboard/IO services. I mean: append kernel parameters
with this:
acpi = off noapic nolapic
This can be done before booting, but it's the best to create a new, safe
system start entry in your grub menu (read manual to do this).

I first run into the bug while testing Lucid Lynx from the very beginning, then
found out some way to bypass it (don't remeber how, it was a real mess). I have

In Kubuntu, widgets and the mouse can be placed in areas that are covered by no
monitor.
This is definitely a bug,t he window title was supposed to go in the
panel, we just didn't get to it. I do think that bug is already filed,

Still happening. There seems to be a pattern related to USB activity:
doing a large transfer to USB disk can cause the error. My onboard, HDA,
sound card shares an interrupt with the USB controller. So I suspect
that heavy USB activity can cause some kind of under- or overrun, or
other error
I agree. This needs to be fixed with the Maverick light themes being
released tomorrow. The transparent tooltips don't work with half of all
applications. Here is the Maverick Radiance theme tooltip with Pidgin:

This bug was filed in 2008, for a largely different version of network-
manager. Since then, carrier detection has improved and changed a lot
and there are additionally other ways you can force NetworkManager to
restart a connection (re-establish the DHCP session), e.g. clicking
after some investigation, it seems that gconfd is launched under
GDMSESSION=une-guest-restricted instead under une value like in lucid.
Consequently, all the session tweak to launch the right parameters
doesn't hence.
