I just tried to install Kubuntu 11.10 from the alternate CDROM for
amd64 and I get the same error:

Doing a find on the root of the CDROM, it seems that it is present

Turns out that this is not an issue. The behavior is the same as the
previous kernel.
What I was missing is that custom firewall rules I did not know about
were added to the servers.
