This is still broken on my HP Scanjet 5590. The Pages start bleeding on
the next page, and it by the time it gets page number 10 or so the
offset is almost half a page. I have to set my page height to 28.3 cm
(Letter) in XSane and it works perfectly.

Can you boot 14.04 (Trusty, current version under development) from a
live CD/USB stick and try whether the problem is solved in that version?
Please do a complete system update after booting this version and do not
reboot when being asked for after the update. Simply ignore or minimize
the dialog

package libboost1.54-dev (not installed) failed to install/upgrade:

The issue I reported (1273821) also reports that by installing Nvidia
proprietary drivers the transparent rectangle behind the text will also
disappear.
Anyone else can confirm this? Reverting to the Nvidia Open Source
drivers and deleting XFCE4 configuration file will not fix this problem.

upgrading bluez to bluez5 will be the end for bluetooth hands free
support HFP. Many people use that, Skype with bluetooth device anybody?
Please don't upgrade unless HFP support is restored.
