I had the same problem. I removed my graphics card and tried the onboard
graphics and no more freezing. I installed the correct Nvidia drivers
for my graphics card and it now works perfectly. I found this great post
on how to install the correct driver for my graphics card.
I have found that running vlc media player crashes kwin very
occasionally . I have to go a second tty and when I run htop vlc is
using 100% cpu. After I have killed it I can't go back to the desktop
kwin in unresponsive or I see screen tears.

I think I told Chris Townsend this via. email but logging this here
anyway. I removed the old ISO, got the new one before and reran the
suggested command. Still get the same error where it can't install
upstart-sysv for whatever reason.
I get the following Terminal output

Can you still reproduce the problem?
It’s a shame we didn’t see this bug report earlier, but it was misfiled
against Linux Mint, which only causes them to be ignored since Linux
Mint doesn’t care about Launchpad.

I have the same issue.
Asus X450CA laptop with a single TRRS jack. External headphones work
correctly, but the external microphone does not work at all. Only the
built-in microphone (that hole next to the webcam) is detected. This has

I'm using Ubuntu 15.04 64 bits (Desktop Edition). CPU Intel Core
i7-4790, GPU Intel HD4600. Using latest BIOS and microcode.
There is no HDMI out sound with latest kernel 3.19.0-18-generic. When I
boot with previous kernel (3.19.0-16-generic) the HDMI sound works.
