Ok, I updated the BIOS to F9 and confirmed with the commands above:

Now nothing other than windows worked. I eventually figured out the BIOS
updates reset the BIOS settings, which included enabling the Intel HD Graphics
on the processor - which seems to confuse the hell out of
Turns out I wasn't using a clean installation, but one modified via apt-get. I
cannot see a way to delete the report, but it should be deleted.

First i would get the login screen again after 10-120 seconds. Then the crash

Yes, there are a number of operations for which we used to lack progress
information entirely which made this impossible.

Thanks a lot. Years ago I got it working both on the network and via
USB. I am connected through the USB port. It worked on the 32 bit
version of 14.xx but with the move to 15.10 and 64 bit, things got ugly.
