This issue seems to have slipped through the cracks somehow. I came up
with the attached patch that fixes the original issue mentioned above,
as well as a segfault in the download path handling that was masked by

16.04 works great on this laptop!
The 16.10 install image boots fine, but once you install it the i915
graphics driver doesn't seem to attach to the device. I tried many
things, but I couldn't get it working. Even running the kernel from
16.04 made no difference.
On 16.04
a comment in bugzilla.gnome noted your machine had changed bandwidth.
do you have problems with your wireless connection (paula) with other devices?
is it a crowded location (dorm/university or setting where lots of people use
wireless devices)?
is there any fridge(refrigerator), microwave oven
when it's "not working" can you ping (icmp echo request) your router?
"ping 192.168.1.1" (when using "paula" network)
if the answer is YES; you might want to try adding a "nameserver" to the
/etc/resolv.conf DNS lookup file when you've problems. eg. adding the line
"nameserver 8.8.8.8"
I've written a draft and asked for comments on it on the ubuntu-doc
mailing list (link below). If anyone subscribed to this bug (Pete?)
wants to comment too that would be very good. There's no need to post on
the mailing list, just add a comment to this bug and I'll see it.

LibreOffice 5.2.2.2 on Xubuntu 16.10 is also affected. The problem
starts spreading to more and more applications as GTK3 being adopted.

I don't really know. I remember suspending Ubuntu. Then power went off
at night. Today morning I tried to log in using Gnome but screen is
blurry and it wouldn't log in. Ubuntu main user interface (I think that
is Unity) wouldn't let me log in either. I logged in with xfce,

After having upgraded to 16.10 (from Xenial), I get an internal error:
/usr/lib/packagekit/packagekitd, crashed on SIGSEGVin_dynamic_cast(),
packagekit 0.8.17-4ubuntu6~gcc5.4ubuntu1.1.
Since I am fed up with all these problems I am going to reinstall Xenial, and
maybe Yakkety after that. I
