If you want to preserve other OS and setup encrypted partitions by hand,
you can do so, since forever using the mini.iso d-i installer, and
install ubuntu-desktop task.
yes unencrypted /boot is currently a limitation with grub, but you can
use sicherboot package to boot UEFI based systems
I think we're going to need more information on how this plugin got in
there in the first place. Being able to map a library in a user-writable
directory doesn't sound terribly safe...

This seems to be multiple packages, Ubuntu 18.04 itself (because 17.10
and all previous versions worked fine), and firmware.
When wake from lid close, GUI freezes up and un-freezes every few
seconds.
Wifi won't even scan for networks, much less join one.

The "Internet dropping" issue started as soon as I installed this
complete new Ubuntu Server 18.04 on the ASRock z370m Pro4 motherboard.
Then added the GNOME Desktop, and had to change the Ethernet network
configuration to use Netplan and NetworkManager service.

I believe that in the heat of the argument the key point was lost.
In the enterprise world, the "desktop" method of "lets assume we can
