I also have had random system freezes ever since I upgraded from 18.04
to 18.10, Linux 4.18.0-10-generic, solved by always booting into
4.15.0-36-generic. When the freezes happen, the screen simply stops, and

I was getting this error trying to install the libapache2-mod-php7.2 on
bionic using the 3.4.0 puppetlabs apache puppet module. After I added
the ubuntu test repo and did an update to the latest apache2 (2.4.29),

so updated using -proposed and started vlc playing yesterday (selecting
lots of different files, and skipping next if the video is long, or I
think it's been playing awhile..

Hi,
thanks for the analysis. Indeed I had installed a custom version of libreadline
and it caused many troubles (even preventing Ubuntu to start).
I do not have enough knowledge so I could not link it to this bug I reported
because Ubuntu proposed me to report it.
I will change the status as
ok, sorry for reporting it in the wrong place. I'm not a developer and
am unfamiliar with these boards. Nautilus wasn't listed as a product
under File a Bug there, so I was directed to file it at
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/issues/766 .
