without `-fvisibility=hidden` causing all symbols in the shared objects
to be global which then causes some sort of symbol conflict on load and

with 18.04, updated to current apt updates, then installed the kernel

rebooting, I faced a very early kernel panic. The whole disk is
encrypted and I couldn't even reach the decryption phase where it asks
for the password.

I am seeing this issue on Linux Mint with anything later than the
4.15.0-58-generic #64-16.04.1-Ubuntu kernel.
Will this be backported to the 4.15 series as well? Or do I need to
