Just a comment, this is not limited to anything in Ubuntu, as I saw it
last night using `bpytop` on Debian Bullseye/Sid (it occurs there with
`bashtop` too)
I also suspect it occurs in other shells too (not just QTerminal) as
I've seen it on systems where I wasn't using LXQt (including 18.04)

After upgrading from 20.04 to 20.10 system is unusable anymore due to
GPU issues with nouveau. Same system worked fine on 20.04.
Switching to nvidia proprietary driver and Xorg fixes the issue.
Symptoms:
System starts just fine, but overall UI
Tried 5.9.1 mainline kernel and got the same issue. The only difference
is Wayland recovered much faster (under 1 min). I didn't wait after
recovery to see if system will lockup completely and rebooted with
proprietary driver. Attaching dmesg output.

I finally could re-install it by setting EFI ON in my BIOS, and creating
an 50Mo EFI partition with the ubuntu installer. So, Ubuntu seem not to
work anymore with old PC having not UEFI (or disabling it) ?

Suffered the same issue, with broken behaviour on external USB keyboard
but normal behaviour on laptop's internal keyboard. Workaround was to
remove the French keyboard layout and reinstall it. So far so good.
