gnome-settings-daemon issue 508 has been closed for 2 years so we
probably shouldn't link to that. But I have had the feeling that I was
only getting the sound on some laptops and not others.

Bugs,
Alex, thanks for the review! We can definitely remove the dependency of
AUFS and provide a standalone patch, in this way we can provide this
feature also to those kernels that don't have AUFS enabled (like all the
recent kernels in jammy). I'll work on that and will ping you when I
have a patch
I have no extensions installed manually.
It happens whenever opening the file dialog, but I noticed if there is
no external display connected to the laptop, it didn't happen so far.
I ran ubuntu-bug against the file but the URL doesn't work, returning
"Error reports sent from this system", so

Thanks for the reply. So somewhat the account got flagged as a system
one which is the issue, I'm going to retitle the report to be about that
but I'm unsure how we can determine why that was set...

@Ian and everyone else, better to report a new bug following the
instruction I just posted before, your issue is probably different from
the one originally posted here and mixing the discussions is creating
confusion

I'm surprised that:
(a) Xwayland is needed on startup. It shouldn't be started in a Wayland
session until a legacy app is launched.
(b) g_error ("Failed to start X Wayland: %s", error->message); is
fatal. It shouldn't be fatal because of (a), but indeed it apparently
still is in the latest

The log in comment #5 says that gnome-shell has crashed in the past. In
a Xorg session you might not notice when that happens but app windows
might then go under the dock when the dock and shell restarts.
Please:
1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug
I think we will need a more specific example. Under what conditions does
the window go under the dock/panel? What are the steps to reproduce it?
Please also try disabling any gnome-shell extensions you may have added
and also run:
cd ~/.local/share/gnome-shell
rm -rf extensions
and log in
This problem's still there on 22.04. I simplified my notes on how to
