LP: #1717257.
The patch is still needed on Bionic to not break nvcc, but not on Focal.
I take this bug report as an indication of the patch not being needed
for latest icc either, thus will drop it in the next glibc upload.
Thank you for the very detailed explanation and the patch. I see the
discussion resuming upstream and I hope it ends with this or an
alternative patch being accepted there.
When it gets accepted I'll consider this to be included in the next SRUs
to affected stable releases.

Verified 2.27-3ubuntu1.3 on Bionic:
* Observe that debian/patches/git-updates-2.diff contains the missing
upstream commits intended to be backported.
Done.
* Observe the patch being applied at build time.
Bionic has already been fixed.
I could not reproduce the issue even with 2.27-3ubuntu1.2.

Is the deadlock observed on Bionic/Xenial, too?
Systemd in Bionic/Xenial does not support AllowSuspend=, etc., just
SuspendMode=, HibernateMode=, HybridSleepMode= and SuspendState=,
HibernateState=, HybridSleepState=.
Setting *Mode=hibernate would probably work.
