Maybe because Ive installed google chrome? Not sure how to disable it's
ppa. Simply typing ppa-purge into a terminal did not help.

Does this happen while plugged in?

working in any other mode that you can or in BIOS

have you tried unistalling thne reinstalling and rebooting right after
there could be a conflict from downoad then update and not rebooting
