It is similar but not identical.
I just updated Snap, Firefox, and Chromium, and, currently, Firefox with
hardware acceleration works fine using wayland, but not X11. Firefox
without hardware acceleration works on either.

- Having looked at Tommy's comment, I tried killing the networkmanager
process, and playback problems have gone - a 720p .mkv file (2.2GB for
~50 minutes) which would only play about 5
to file this bug under, could you please
suggest a more appropriate one?

PS: The behavior has been duplicated on another motherboard/CPU/Memory
combination, so it is probably not specific to my hardware.

Fresh install on Karmic Alpha 5 - AGP FX5200 NVIDIA video card detected,
suggests installing the non-free driver, when you try to activate it, it
downloads the driver, but installation fails at the DKMS step.
On restart, X fails to load, as /etc/X11/xorg.conf has been
exit status: 10)
Build failed. Installation skipped.

Tried again, used different hard disk, instructed ubiquity to use the
entire disk.
X restarted towards the end of the installation - I might have been
looking elsewhere and had ubiquity do this in the previous installs.
This time GRUB gives error 2 on rebooting.
again, there is no /boot/grub on

The problem appears to happen at the 90% Hardware detection stage.
With the video card removed and using the onboard VIA video, X froze
the cursor would not respond.
With a different video card (AGP SIS XABRE), X restarted a few seconds
after hardware detection started. Rebooting gave GRUB

Update:
I just tried installing the AMD64 version of Kubuntu (which had
installed fine on a Socket AM2 PC just beforehand) and it also froze at
the 90% Detecting Hardware part of installation.
Is there a problem with ubiquity Socket 754 motherbaords (with VIA
chipset)?
