I have an E220 also and i have reported this similar bug ( my bug is
#417776 ) a month earlier than this bug (430011) but it seems that is
has lack of updates, so I also decided to subscribe here.
The point is, even after 31.17 kernel in karmic, the problem is still
unsolved in my computer.

In karmic, I even cannot connect to the internet by using other than RNDIS
(Wireless Wired LAN) if:
1. I use Automatic (DHCP)
2. I type my router's address for my DNS server using Automatic (DHCP)
addresses only, or
3. I don't type a custom DNS address (Currently using 202.134.0.155 when typing
have upgraded to karmic just now, and the modem still cannot communicate
with ubuntu properly. It can connect, though I cannot browse anything
nor update using any method
