Still having the same problem. However, after issuing `gnome-
screensaver-command -l` once, the screen saver seems to be active during
the rest of the session. (Ctrl+Alt+L still doesn't work, though.)

Actually the problem disappeared after I installed drivers from the
Bumblebee PPA (https://launchpad.net/~bumblebee/+archive/stable).
Switching to NVIDIA finally allowed me to use switchable graphics, see

Ubuntu 11.04, Virtualbox 4.1.2-73507~Ubuntu~natty from PPA, Windows 7
guest. Ctrl+C in guest works if and only if showing the position of the
mouse pointer is disabled.
