When I try to activate the recommendations in the software center, the
process fails after collecting the data.
This first happened on a Raring install. I have another computer with
Quantal installed. Software center used to work fine but the problem
shows up here too now.

I use Fluxbox, and have mapped the fn+F1 key to my own little script
that calls /etc/acpi/sleep.sh
Basically I have had to do this as I do not run/have installed Gnome/KDE
at all.
All works good now.

Yes, but a config file in /boot doesn't mean (or proved to be) it is the
config file of the running kernel. /proc/config.gz will always be
correct.
The kernel option to add this is so trivial, I am surprised it isn't a
default option.

OK, I built my own kernel with the above kernel patch applied.
This works good. My wireless key now functions again, and the CDEject
key (XF86Eject) when mapped to Fluxbox keys file works too without
locking up the desktop input.
xev reports all fn keys to work properly (apart from F3, and F8

same issues only with these keys:
fn+F1, fn+F2, fn+F8.
...no release is registered.
So this Dell bug seems to affect different models in different ways.

I found on my Slackware system, that I could crash Celestia by slowing
time down to around 1e-12 (as an aside the top left time rate shows up
peculair things too). It appears to be a maths overflow of type double.

Yes, reading and then putting brain into gear, it then becomes obvious
what is meant - but at first glace after running through the power
settings, it is easy to mis-interpret.

I think I got this!!!
If you go to power management settings, on battery power, I bet you have
the slider set to 80% or what not.
I did, and the screen keeps going dark. Well, the there is a BUG! The
slider works in reverse - so set it to 20% if you want 80% brightness,
0% if you want 100%

I updated to Gutsy today, and got the very same issue with ntpd.
WHY does ntpd need to rely on dhcp broadcasts or whatever??? It
DOESN'T.
All that it needs is a network connection via the systems eth0 (or whatever).
The issue is somehow ntpd gets started before any network

then found mails from cron were going into dead.letter as sendmail
