For what it is worth, I agree with ianmacs. I spent 2 days googling to
find a solution to the problem. I'm using the Ubuntu Desktop 64 bit
version. Just because I like to have a desktop (just in case). But
have been thinking about moving all my containers to the server version.

The vent kernel module is not installed. If you do:
sudo apt install linux-modules-extra-raspi
This will install the module and docker will work.

This is happening on my HP ProBook Running Xenial. In addition, some
windows completely disappear. I must quit the application through the
launcher and restart it to regain the windows. The windows are where I
would expect them to be after the application is re-launched.
