This issue also occurs in previous versions of Ubuntu. It also occurs in at
least the most recent versions of Fedora.
I tested the latest upstream kernel but the computer does not boot anymore.

Christopher, here are some results from live medium without any update, i.e.,
as it comes with the live CD:
- 12.04.5 = same problem as above
- 13.04 and 13.10 = don't boot (seems to crash when graphic card is called,
but I'm no specialist)
- 14.04 and 14.10 = same as 12.04.5 and as described
